Osvaldo Fresedo will play exclusively for our station* during the current year. In front of his tango orchestra with the singers Carlos Mayel and Ricardo Ruíz.* Osvaldo Fresedo promises to do an outstanding job at our microphone.
NOTES:
* The station was Radio El Mundo LR1, the radio station of the El Mundo newspaper, both owned by Editorial Haynes. Orchestras were not just "guests" on the station. They had contracts and were paid to appear at intervals during the week. Since radio was the most important medium for diffusion of music, it was important to have good radio exposure. Some orchestras never recorded, but they became well known via radio performances alone.
* Carlos Mayel and Ricardo Ruiz: Carlos Mayel recorded nine songs with Fresedo during 1940-41. Ricardo Ruiz recorded 30 songs with Fresedo between 1935 and 1941, including some of the bandleader's best-known recordings such as Vida Querida, Buscándote, and Volverás.
[25 January 1941]
Scroll down for a YouTube audio of a radio performance of "Pimienta" and "Fuimos" by Fresedo, the latter with Oscar Serpa, probably 1946. Thanks, Aad de Danser for sharing that link!
