I record all my SOUNDER SLEEP SOMINARS for archival purposes, and I am also a big iPod fan. So I was pleased to hear that there's a new iPod accessory, a stereo microphone for video-capable iPods. iLounge has all the details.
The manufacturer claims that the device enables 1.5 hours of recording time on the 30 Gigabyte iPod and 3 hours on the 60 GB iPod on a single battery charge. Sound is CD-quality, and files recroded in uncompressed, WAV format.
Even so, I'll be sticking with my Edirol R1 digital recorder for the time being. I am extremely happy with its performance. I recently built a small external battery pack that holds 4 AA cells, and with that I can record a full day of teaching (ca. 6 hours) without a battery change. And I can store about 24 hours of material on a single 2 GB Compact Flash card. I record in MP3 format at 128 Kbps, and audio quality is excellent and virtually noise-free. (The R1 can also record uncompressed WAV files, but that would produce higher resolution than I need, and much larger file sizes than I want.)
